Hello and welcome to the beginners coaching club. My name is Andy Johnstone and I am a Level 1 Coach affiliated with Coach Bowls: A world class coaching system for all. (Click here for website) and also the Bowls Scotland Player Development Framework.
I am DBS Enhanced and a safeguarding practitioner. If you wish to join the club and have no experience of bowling then I will be delighted to offer you an opportunity to join the club with the confidence and ability to compete on club nights from your very first day. I also offer coaching to existing members who want to get back to basics. New joiners are my priority. Hope to see you soon. |
What do i offer?
I offer basic coaching on the following principles (Forehand and Backhand):
- Health and Safety
- Biomechnically correct delivery of a bowl (Introduction to different grips and stances)
- Coaching under Bowls Scotland Player Development Framework (See tab under L1 Coaching)
When am i available?
Every Wednesday during the outdoor season (See Club Diary / Notices). 6pm-ish! to 9pm. See notices below for any announcements of me not being available to book.
What can i expect?
I can cover the very basics in 1 hour sessions:
Session 1:
Coaching under affiliation of Coach Bowls and the Bowls Scotland Player Development Framework. Please see Bowls Scotland Player Development tab under L1 coaching.
Further sessions on any of the above topics (Members Only)

Why are onward sessions members only?
My ultimate aim is to get new members into the club with the best grounding in the sport that I can offer. I aim to work through my own qualification and aspire to get to county coaching and advanced levels. Whilst I would love to teach the basics of the sport to members of all clubs in the area, new potential members of Eaglesfield are my prioriy. It would be unfair to withold the opportunity of a new potential member to join by dedicating an entire evening to someone who has no intention of joining the club or has already joined another with no intention of joining a secondary club. I will of course explore this opportunity as the course develops and matures.
Will I be in a group with strangers?
No. To maintain quality I will only coach a maximum of 2 people at one time and only if those 2 people have booked together. You will be expected to appraise each others efforts.
Do I need to book?
Getting in touch is preferred using the form below. However, if you turn up on a Wednesday ready to go and I am free then you are welcome to begin right away.

i am under 18

Under 18's cannot begin tuition until an adult consent/next of kin form is signed. find the form in the membership and fees page under the Contact / Join tab.
How much does it cost?
Sessions cost £1 per hour session. You will be invited to become a member after session 1 currently (2024) £15.
Whats The dress code?
Sports gear or anything you want that you can at least crouch down in, trainers are mandatory and must not have a chunky off road grip to them that can rip up the grass, any court trainer is good. Prepare for Scottish weather, water is available, bring food if you want.
I'm interested, what do i do?
Well, you can turn up as mentioned or preferably contact me using the form below.
